I decided to take the idea of love and relationships and develope it. I needed a symbol etc, to interprete love, so I chose a rose, which has long been associated with love.
I needed something to 'contain' the roses....Books 'contain' information, thoughts, feelings, memories etc.Books therefore are containers. The pages of the book were cut in the shape of the roses, the roses were then placed into the space cut out.
Each rose symbolises the love/relationship by the condition the rose is in. For example, a fresh rose symbolises a love that is still alive and strong. The persons are still 'in love'. Whereas a wilted/decaying rose symbolises a love that has died, it no longer exists.
The books are covered in leather-old and new, depending on the rose inside. For example, the fresh rose is contained in an old book, with the leather cover worn and aged. The wilted rose is contained in new book with a new leather cover. Never judge a book by its cover!!
