Given the theme "Voyage for good",I came to many conclusions on the subject,but also having the topic of containment,it gave the project an early substance to work with where I began by understanding containment itself by studying boxes, bowls, pockets, envelopes,packages etc.Our project at the time was to be transported over to Newfoundland and I thought about the project as if I were the one who was to emmigrate there for good, and what I would bring with me on this one way voyage.Having been born and raised near the sea, an aquatic theme came to mind automatically where I would be leaving the Atlantic coast in County Clare to travel across the Alantic ocean to the Newfoundland coast.Two completely different cultures seperated only by the colossal tide.I thought about what I would bring with me that make me who I am today, my culture, language, interests, my memories.With my understanding of containment and what I was going to contain,I set about the idea of escaping from these containers,escaping from some bad memories in my life,the posessions which I would leave behind, hoping to make a fresh start in Newfoundland without.These ideas I was having constantly reminded me of creatures who go through metamorphosis,eg.caterpillars to butterflies,tadpoles to frogs,spawn to fish,etc.They all begin life in a totally different form as they will end it where they go through a dormant stage inside a sort of cocoon,protecting them against the elements until they emerge in the form they die as.I see my life like this, I begin life not as I wish to end it and go through a type of change as I mature into the person I will die as,my role in life complete.
