About the Artist

Ernest Ruckle was born in New Jersey, USA, in 1940. He specialized in literary criticism at Rutgers University and became an artist in 1963. He's had many shows in New York and has lived in Waterford, Ireland, since 1986. Several American regional museums have included his work in surveys of recent art. His training in the careful methods of literary criticism has made him impatient with the more casual methods of art criticism and has alienated him from the art mainstream. In 1978 he wrote an essay on the need for reforming art criticism.
