Waterford Crystal Centre for Marketing Studies

The Waterford Crystal Centre for Marketing Studies was established in 2004 and brings together the expertise of a core team of 20 marketing faculty members within the School of Business. The Centre currently acts as a research and teaching focus for over 35 postgraduate students in the marketing area and has secured in excess of €3.5 million in funding for projects since its’ inception, resulting in the publication of over 40 double blind refereed journal aticles by faculty members.

The work of the Centre has been funded through several funding agencies including the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS) Research Fellowship Scheme, Fáilte Ireland (for the Management of the ‘Fáilte Ireland Tourism Learning Networks’ initiative and the development of a micro-enterprise degree for tourism professionals), the Health Services Executive, Enterprise Ireland (through the Innovation Partnership Scheme) and the WIT Behest Cluster Scheme. Postgraduate research projects are also funded through these agencies including the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS) Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme, Technological Sector Research Strand 1 Postgraduate R&D Skills Programme and the Telecommunications Systems & Software Group (TSSG).

Key research interests at the Waterford Crystal Centre for Marketing Studies include marketing strategy and the development of capabilities, innovation and knowledge transfer, brand and reputation management and sports marketing. The centre partners externally with leading international academics, with whom we collaborate on several ongoing projects. Centre faculty members also contribute significantly to the national and international marketing academy, for example, through reviewing for selected journals, acting as track chairs for the conference of the largest professional marketing association in the world - the American Marketing Association (AMA) Marketing Educators Conference; and through membership of international research groups such as the International Corporate Identity/Associations Research Group.

The Centre has deep and active links over many years with the marketing industry through collaborations with the Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII). Centre faculty members have delivered on both the MII’s Executive Brand Management Programme and Executive Masters in Marketing Programme, in addition to being members of the regional and national councils, and chairing the national marketing education committee.  The Centre’s research is applied in several industrial and societal contexts, including tourism, healthcare management and; enterprise, innovation and knowledge transfer.  Centre members welcome ideas from prospective research students.
