Optics @WIT
Welcome to the Optics Research Group, WIT. This multidisciplinary research team is based in the Department of Computing, Maths and Physics. The activities of the group span many different aspects of optics and photonics.
Current research areas include high brightness sources, Raman fibre devices, quantum dot dynamics, erbium amplifiers and Bragg sensors.
Our laboratory is on the Cork road campus of WIT, feel free to contact us at any time to arrange a visit or discussion.
For details about recent publications, please see the individual researcher pages.
Specific technologies developed in the group are outlined in the resources page.
NEWS:
Our Department has launched a new Physics based degree program. See here for further information and application details.
Congratulations to Kieran O'Mahoney, Ronan O'Byrne, Sergey Sergeyev and Dominic Murphy who picked up Patent Awards at WIT's research day conference. See here for more conference details.
Dr. Dominic Murphy, recently presented a new platform technology: “Spectrifire – A Unique Fusion of Optical Technologies” at the Enterprise Ireland Big Ideas Showcase. Spectrifire is a new portable spectrometer technology that was invented by Dr. Kieran O’Mahoney and Dr. Dominic Murphy while working on Enterprise Ireland-funded projects. A new start-up company, Fusion Photonics Ltd., has been formed to commercialise the Spectrifire technology and a strong pipeline of additional optical technologies.
