Higher Diploma & MA in Social, Personal, Health Education (SPHE)
NOTE: Applications for both of these courses closes on May 31, 2008.
Social Personal and Health Education (SPHE) appears on the Irish school curriculum as a core subject and has recently been named as a specialist subject by the Department of Education and Science. SPHE also has a key role to play in other settings such as health services, youth services and non-governmental organisations. Therefore, trained individuals are needed to facilitate SPHE across a number of settings.
Central to the Higher Diploma in SPHE is the development of facilitation skills to effectively work with groups and on a one-to-one basis. The core focus on personal development throughout will also support participants to discover how their own capacity to stay healthy maximises their potential to support others to reach their potential to be well.
The programme is jointly run by the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Science and the Department of Adult and Continuing Education in partnership with the HSE.
The fees for the Higher Diploma are €2800 for the year 2007/08.
The MA in SPHE builds on the learnings of the Higher Diploma and offers participants a unique opportunity to finely tune their facilitation and personal skills through practical experience, group process and advanced personal development. These skills will support students to effectively deliver SPHE in the school setting and also to work effectively with groups and with individuals on a one-to-one basis.
The programme is jointly run by the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Science and the WIT Department of Adult and Continuing Education in partnership with the HSE.
The fees for the MA are €5000 for the year 2007/08.
