Storytelling is an essential human activity that has been around since we started to use language thousands of years ago.  It has shaped the way we think and the way we live and work.  This short course explores the many uses of storytelling and includes examples of how it improves many aspects of work and life.  Storytelling is being used in teaching and training, counselling, pastoral work, medicine and many other spheres of work.  Storytelling and imagery are particularly effective when used well in professional presentations and talks. 

Course Content

> The power of metaphor and story in presentations
> Using stories in teaching and training and other work situations
> The influence of storytelling on Irish literature and drama
> The origin of story in mythology and the human experience
> Shaping the family story
> What stories to tell children

Course Leader: Ray McGrath is a storyteller and teacher. He has been using storytelling in his teaching for many years and has lectured on the subject of storytelling in Canada and Ireland.  Ray has been featured on Canadian national radio and television and at many storytelling festivals, conferences and workshops.
