This course aims to give students a comprehensive and concise grounding course covering all aspects of sound recording and music technology. On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
> Understand the key concepts behind Music Technology
> Understand the equipment used in a Digital Audio Workstation
> Set up a Digital Audio Workstation
> Record audio and MIDI into a sequencer
> Produce a master copy of recorded material
Course Content
> What is sound? History of recording. What is Music Technology? Digital vs Analog
> Microphones and microphone techniques, Levels, Mixing Desks, Speakers, Cables, Patchbays.
> Traditional Recording studios - description of equipment used and practices. Roles of producer and engineer.
> Digital Recording Studios - Setting up a digital recording studio, Signal flow, Multitrack recording, Recording procedures, Production techniques.
> Sequencers -Pro Tools, Cubase. Reason
> Post Production Techniques - Mixing techniques, Equalisation techniques, Metering, Reverberation, Digital delays, Compression, noise gates etc.
> Mastering - Why master? Techniques and equipment
> M.I.D.I and Sampling
