Caring for others has in recent years presented a major challenge to carers working in the community, sheltered accommodation, hospital, or in their own homes. Consequently, carers require a comprehensive knowledge of skills core in order to facilitate and promote individuals to maximum independence and activity level.
The significance of problems associated with caring for others is underscored by the unique demands these people make on those who are responsible for taking care of them. Isolation by virtue of being homebound, the need for constant supervision with little or no practical help, the disruption of normal personal, household and work activities, conflicting multiple role demands, and the psychological impact of caring, all put care-givers at serious risk for developing health problems of their own.
This course is designed with the specific intention of providing care-givers with the opportunity to study all aspects of knowledge, attitudes, and skill involved in caring for others.
