Higher Certificate in Community Education & Development

The Higher Certificate in Community Education & Development was designed in partnership with the community and voluntary sector as a qualification for people involved in community education, community development and related work. Course applicants must already be active in their local communities, as this practical work will be integrated into the course work. The course aims to give participants the opportunity to gain a Higher Certificate over two years through part-time study and practical experience. Participants will receive single subject certification for each module they successfully complete with a Higher Certificate being awarded on completion of 12 modules.

The following features apply to this course:

> The course is usually delivered in community-based settings.
> Collaborative learning is encouraged and supported as opposed to competitive learning.
> Peer support is built into the course by means of study groups, whereby students support and encourage 
each other and share the learning.
> Creative assessment methods are used that encourage the sharing of the learning throughout the course.
> Each of the modules receives 10 credits - 12 modules receive 120 credits and a Higher National Certificate.
> Prior experience or education can be used to gain exemption from subjects through the APL system.

Opportunities for Progression:

Upon successful completion of the course candidates may progress to the BA in Community Education & Development (Level 7) and may also progress to the BA (Hons) Community Education & Development (Level 8).
