Societies in WIT
The diversity of societies in Waterford Institute of Technology means that every taste is catered for. Aside from academic learning, interacting with and socialising with other students can relieve the undue stress which college can bring. Get involved with a society in WIT and broaden your horizons, take time to experience new activities and have the opportunity to confine your extra time to meet new people and enjoy a new learning experience.
With a host of societies from academic, cultural and political areas, there will be something to suit and interest all those seeking new challenges. Throughout the year there are a number of society balls which take place including Social Care, Architecture, Law, Engineering and the famous Business ball. Organised by the committee and its members each society has a chance to wrap up their year, and offer a fun and eventful night, which are usually scheduled from January on. A lot of hard work and organisation goes into organising such an event, so each society depends on the help of students and members to guarantee a successful and enjoyable occasion.
At the end of every academic year there is also an award for Societies Personality of the Year. This gives each society a voice in relation to who they feel has made an outstanding contribution to the running of a particular society, and who’s efforts are highly regarded. Each society and its members can nominate a candidate for the award, which is then decided upon by the WIT Annual Awards Committee. Becoming an active member of a society will for the duration of your time in WIT, ensure a fun and eventful break from your academic stresses and meet other students outside the academic environment.
