Special Purpose Award (HETAC Level 6)
FULL-TIME PROGRAMME COMMENCING SEPTEMBER 2011
The Certificate in Craft Transferable Skills aims to assist in the education and progression
needs of redundant apprentices who have successfully completed phases 1 to 6
of the apprenticeship programme.
COURSE CONTENT
The programme comprises of the following taught modules at Level 6 on the
National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ):
• Computer Applications • Applied Science and Technology
• Mathematics • Project • Business
PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of the Certificate in Craft Transferable Skills, participants wishing to complete their apprenticeship will be required to complete Phase 7 with an Employer or complete the Phase 7 Equivalent Assessments in a FÁS Training Centre. Participants who have successfully completed all phases can include the Certificate in Craft Transferable Programme in their portfolio of evidence to be considered by the Redundant Apprentice Accreditation Committee for the award of the Advanced Certificate – Craft.
In addition with this award an apprentice may enter year 2 of a relevant Higher Certificate Programme (level 6) and in some particular cases may gain entry to particular Ordinary Degree Programmes (level 7) programmes in this or other colleges. The granting of exemptions to gain entry to year 2 of programmes will be a matter for each college.

Course Commencement Date: September, 2011
Redundant apprentices will qualify for a training allowance in line with the existing FÁS Training Allowance Policy where a participant is in receipt of a Social Welfare allowance (Jobseekers Allowance or Jobseekers Benefit) prior to commencement of the programme.
