Apprentice Examinations

Examination Schedule

Examinations take place three times a year, March, June and November.  Applications to take an examination must be made one month before the date of the sitting.  Apprentices who are on the Version 2.2 apprenticeship programme will receive an application slip from FAS which should be returned to the Examination Secretary before the indicated date.
It is proposed to hold a number of revision classes for apprentices who have to repeat examinations. If you feel you could benefit from these revision courses please contact the Department of Trade Studies secretary Ms Erika Westwood on 051 302463 as soon as possible. We will facilitate individuals where one or two apprentices have a repeat examination to complete.

All apprentices are required to familiarise themselves with the Examination Regulations well in advance of the examinations. These regulations are available on this website or from the department secretary.

Awarding Body:
On successful completion of an apprenticeship, a FETAC (The Further Education and Training Awards Council) Advanced Certificate is awarded, this is recognized internationally as the requirement for craftsperson status.

Scheduling of Apprentices:
All apprentices are scheduled for attendance by FÁS with whom they are registered. All enquiries, therefore, should be made directly to FÁS.  051 301500
