BBS update 11 January
Posted: Mon, January 11, 2010

Phase-over Plan – this week:

If you do not have a confirmed placement you should return to college on Monday January 18 and Tuesday January 19 to attend flexible semester lectures for New Venture Initiative or College and Community.  If your CV is with a company and you are awaiting interview, you should still report to college and attend lectures.  Time and place for lectures are on the School Notice Board.

Last Day for interviews:   Final interviews with companies are happening this week or next.  There are interviews possible for the ESB in Waterford, Eirgrid, Waterford Credit Union, Wexford VEC and Cleaboy Business Park among others.

You should let Annette Toms at bbsplacement@wit.ie know if you have secured a work placement position yourself.

Log Books:

Those students who have secured a work placement position should complete the Cover Sheet of the log book as soon as possible.  This gives the name and address of your employer, name of your supervisor and contact e-mail addresses and telephone numbers.  Include your start date.  If you know your finish date, include that also; if not, leave it blank. Ignore the section about Mentor Contact and Visit.   You can return the signed log book Cover Sheet to Annette Toms by fax to 051-302688, have it scanned into an e-mail and send to bbsplacement@wit.ie or post to Annette Toms, School of Business, WIT, Cork Road, Waterford.  Note the Cover Sheet must be signed by your supervisor

The template for the Cover Sheet, together with the template for the Log Book, and some tips and sample log books are available on the website at

Your Mentor:

Your mentor will be appointed in due course. This may be one of the placement team or one of the BBS/BAFS lecturers.  Your mentor will contact you to introduce him/herself to you and your supervisor, and to see how things are progressing.  He/she may also wish to discuss arranging to visit you during your work placement.   These visits will not happen for some time yet; it is normal to wait until you are well settled in to your work but, ideally, should happen before the end of April.

We wish you all the best of luck with your flexible semester.
