BBS weekly update as at Friday 30 November 2007

This report is specifically directed to all students who do not have a work placement position as at Friday November 30.  We have 73 students placed at this stage, 61% of total. 

Those who do not have a placement yet may want to think about being more flexible on location preferences and may want to become more proactive in seeking a position.  We remind you that the final responsibility for getting you a position rests with you.  We can provide you with a letter of introduction to give to prospective employers. 

Interviews this week: 
On Thursday 6th December, Lisduggan District Credit Union will interview at the credit union premises on the Paddy Brown’s Road.  On Friday 7th, NVD New Ross at their offices in New Ross.  Note that Ericsson is arranging interviews over the next few weeks at their facility in Dublin for the accounting jobs in Dun Laoghaire and Athlone.  They may contact students directly with interview times and places although we have asked them to work through Annette.

Note that we put job descriptions on the notice board in the placement office and you should have a look at what is there from time to time.  If you like a particular job or jobs you can let us know and we will send your CV to the employers. 

Symantec Limited, Ballycoolin Business Park, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15; has 4 openings for work placement students (see job descriptions on board in the work placement office), accounting and economics stream.  The centre has a multi-cultural environment with many workers from European countries working there.  
Symantec is the world leader in providing solutions to help individuals and enterprises assure the security, availability, and integrity of their information. As the fourth largest independent software company in the world, Symantec has operations in more than 40 countries with 475 out of Fortune's global 500 companies using their solutions.

Sage Ireland at Westlink Business Park, Dublin is looking for 2 more students for work placement.  They have already offered positions to 4 of our students.  There is more information about Sage on the notice board inside the placement office at D20.  Suitable for accounting and economics students.

VHI in Kilkenny has informed us that they have additional requirements for students.  They are seeking to hire 26 students in total from any stream

Kerry Group Shillelagh in Co Wicklow (close to Wexford and Carlow borders) may have some positions in supply chain function (materials/production support and scheduling) and also in accounting area. Suitable for accounting, economics and management stream students.  

Ericsson has an accounting job based in Athlone - a Finance Administrator for their Global Services delivery Centre.  See job spec in placement office.  

Lisduggan District Credit Union based at Lisduggan, Waterford with a new sub-office in Kilmeaden, has an opening for a marketing student.  The annual report and accounts of the union can be viewed in the work placement office.  Those called for interview should have a few ideas for marketing the credit union. Interviews will be this Thursday afternoon at the credit union premises on the Paddy Brown’s Road (next to the Church and shopping centre).  

Kerry Group, Field sales job:  See detailed job specification on our notice board.  Based in Finglas, Dublin.  The successful candidate will be fully supported throughout their placement period, gaining exposure to the area of Sales as well as acquiring valuable experience working in a large dynamic food site.  Please note that you will need to have a full clean driving licence.

Last Day for interviews:   There will be no interviews conducted after Friday 11th January 2008 unless the interview was arranged prior to January 11th.  We will continue trying to find placement jobs up to that date.  You will need to keep checking your e-mails over the holiday season and through to January 11th.   There may be interviews during the holiday period.   We will continue to issue this update to you and you should also continue to access the work placement website.  You should let Annette Toms at atoms@wit.ie know if you have secured a work placement position yourself.
