BBS weekly update as at Friday 12 October 2007

As you all know the work placement process has kicked off and there have been interviews running since September 24th.  The early interviews were for the large accounting practices.  CVs for all streams have been sent out to companies at this stage.  We will issue a status report regularly and we will include some statistics in the future reports. 

Opportunities as at October 12
In these status reports we will draw attention to jobs received from companies that may interest some of you even though:
1. They may be located in places you did not consider when you did your location preferences.  
2. The nature of the job may be different than normal

Here are some potential positions that have become available: 

Canada Life Insurances, Blackrock, Dublin:  They have a position for a HRM stream student. 

Astellas Killorglin Co. Kerry:  We placed an accounting student here last year and she received excellent experience.  This is a Japanese pharmaceutical company with a modern factory just outside Killorglin in a beautiful part of Kerry.  The job is in a small accounting section of around 6 persons and involves all aspects of accounting - payables, receivables, cash, management accounting and financial accounting.

Sage Ireland at Westlink Business Park (off the Naas Road) Dublin have opportunities for an accounting stream student and a marketing stream student.  The students we placed there last year spoke in the auditorium at our meeting of September 20th about their positive experience at Sage - the job content, the training provided and the social life there.  There is more information about Sage on the notice board inside the placement office at D20.

Mangans Cash and Carry in Ennis has an opening again this year.  Cian Royston spoke in the auditorium on 20th about his experiences here.  They would like a marketing student.  Person needs a full driving licence. 

AIB  has openings in Cork, Dublin and Limerick in various positions for all streams. 

NVD in New Ross has an opening for a student to be a Transport & Route Planning Operator reporting to the Assistant (Logistics) Manager.   This is mainly a logistics job and would probably suit a management stream person and someone who likes to be outdoors and likes to deal with different work and problems every day.  Full job description is on the notice board in the placement office.

Sam McCauley HQ in Wexford  are looking for a student to do some project-type work by helping install a new IT system for Accounting and HR.    Includes setting up a direct payments banking system.  Person needs to be good at data input, well organised, be very accurate and able to work on own initiative and also be very computer literate.  

Barry Murphy Auctioneers in Waterford are looking for a student to help in the office.  General office work including manning the reception desk from time to time, meeting potential clients plus some field work required - student should have a driving licence.  Would probably suit a marketing or management stream student.    

Midleton Credit Union are looking for a student from any stream.

Wicklow Co. Council are looking for an accounting stream student to work at their offices in the council buildings at Whitegates, Wicklow.  

Wexford VEC  at Ardcavan in Wexford have an opening for an accounting and/or HRM student. 

Dawn Farm Foods in Naas in Cop. Kildare  - have an opening for a management or marketing stream student.

Pepsico  at  Little Island Industrial Estate, Cork are looking for an accounting student. 

Moog in Ringaskiddy Co. Cork  are looking for a HRM stream student. 

Clare Co. Council are looking for a student from any stream to work in their offices in Ennis.
