Progress Report 17 November 2006
Posted: Mon, November 20, 2006

Note that most CVs have been sent to more than one company. The number of students fluctuates due to some transferring in and out from college and community.

There are interviews taking place this Monday for McInerneys, Tuesday for AOL, Thursday for Youghal Credit Union and Kilkenny Arts Festival and Friday for Dawn Foods, Rigney Dolphin, CPL Recruitment and Hays Recruitment.

Note to students who have had interviews: All companies have been impressed with the candidates they have interviewed and have expressed difficulty in making choices. Well done to all of you - you show up before the time, you present yourselves very well and you obviously do good interviews. You are a credit to yourselves and the college.

Opportunities Update as at Nov 17

Here are some opportunities we are trying to fill at the moment. Let us know if you are interested. For the Braun position, let us know before the end of the day Tuesday 21st if you are interested in this.

Braun in Carlow has an opening for a HRM student. Attached to this e-mail is a note about the company and the position. The student will be involved in all areas of Human Resource Management and will be directly involved in projects in relation to:

  • Recruitment & Selection

  • Training & Development

  • Personnel Administration

  • Employee Relations

  • Policies and Procedures

New Venture Initiative: There are 12 positions available on the new venture initiative programme for the flexible semester. This is designed to encourage you to establish and manage a commercial, social or not-for-profit enterprise for the duration of the flexible semester. It is an opportunity for you to spend time acquiring, in a practical way, the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to set up and run your own business. You can decide what type of new venture you set up based on your own experiences, interests and creativity. Some of you might like to consider opting for this elective, especially those of you who cannot take a position outside the Waterford area. Clare Gately is running this programme and would be very interested in hearing from you at cgately@wit.ie . More details are attached. First come first served on this programme.

Sage Ireland at Westlink Business Park (off the Naas Road) Dublin has more vacancies for students. Let us know if you are interested.

NOTES:

  • Students without placements to date: You should continue looking for your own positions. We will continue to contact companies but, at this stage, we think we may not get the 181 positions required. I attach a cover letter to use when applying for a position.
  • Note also the rules of the work placement - if you are offered a position and turn it down, we will not try to get you another position. Similarly if you are scheduled for an interview and do not show up, unless you have a very good reason for not turning up, you will have to find your own position.
  • Note : Check your e-mails every day for possible interviews.
