Progress Report 1 December 2006 Posted: Mon, December 4, 2006 |
Note that most CVs have been sent to more than one company. The number of students fluctuates due to some transferring in and out from other electives. The number of jobs secured is a net number and is reduced for students who have refused to take positions.
Braun:
Braun in Carlow have come back to us and decided not to take a student this year - the nature of the work they had in mind would not be of sufficient standard for a college student.
Agnition:
There will be interviews on Monday 11th for these positions - we will let you know if you are called for interview. Keep checking your e-mails
This week:
There are interviews taking place on Wednesday for Skelly O’Sullivan and Friday for Sales Focus. Possible interviews for E&Y Dublin also this week. We are trying to get some more interviews set up.
Opportunities Update this week
URGENT action needed - because of the end of semester and holiday season, we need to hear from you as early as possible this week on these openings:
- Enterprise Car Rental may have openings still for students.
- Datapac has some sales/marketing positions and accounts/purchasing positions in Dublin (marketing) and Enniscorthy (accounting). They require just 3 CVs for each position. First come first served on these.
- Pilot Training College at Waterford airport has an opening for a general office position.
- Adboard is an advertising company based in Waterford. They sell advertising slots on mini brochure display boards located in supermarkets nationwide. They have three potential positions - see attachment. Applications by close of business on Wednesday 6th.
- Tipperary Co-op in Tipperary Town - opening for one student.
- Mount Sion Update: This has transferred to college and community but we in placement will still take care of these jobs. We ask if you are interested in the marketing or the accounting position in Mount Sion to let us know and we will send your CV to them. If you applied before we ask you to re-apply. Note there will be some payment for this job but it will be less than the minimum wage per hour. It will be 3 days a week. This is a very good project for an accounting student and a marketing student with very good experience to be gained working with professional consultants.
- Sage Ireland - There are a few positions open.
Phaseover Plan - next six weeks:
Decision Date: Monday January 8 is the last day for you to make a decision on what you are going to do during the flexible term. If you do not have a work placement position on that date you need to let us know what other elective option you are taking. You will need to return to college on January 22 and attend a briefing session on that day for new venture initiative or college and community. If we do not hear from you by that date we will assume you have opted for college and community. We strongly suggest that you investigate either a work placement or a college and community project in your local area over the Christmas shut-down period.
Last Day for interviews: There will be no interviews conducted after Friday 19th January. We will continue trying to find placement jobs up to that date. You will need to keep checking your e-mails daily over the holiday season and through to January 19th. We will continue to issue this update to you. You should let Annette Toms at atoms@wit.ie know if you have secured a work placement position yourself. If you don’t have a position on that date you will need to attend a briefing session in WIT on January 22nd for the elective you have chosen.
New Venture Initiative:
Still some places left on this programme. Contact Clare Gately at cgately@wit.ie .
College and Community:
Contact is Corinne Power-O’Mahony: CPower-OMahony@wit.ie
Log Books:
Those students who have secured a work placement position should complete the Header Page of the log book as soon as possible. A copy is attached to this e-mail. This gives the name and address of the employer, name of your supervisor and contact e-mail addresses and telephone numbers. Note that the log book itself is being re-designed at the moment. In due course we will provide some instructions as to how to keep the learning log.
Note: For those of you who have not got a position by the end of the semester, note that there may be interviews during the holiday period and you should continue to check e-mails daily over the holidays. You should also continue to try and get a placement yourself. We currently estimate that we may not find jobs for up to 60 students.
