Progress Report 15 December 2006
Posted: Mon, December 18, 2006

We have received a notification from Intel that their work placement programme runs for 11 months and so they will not be taking any of our students.

This week:

We had interviews this week on Tuesday for Avery Dennison Cork and Cullinane O’Neill Duncan, Kilkenny.  The Pilot Training College interviewed on Wednesday and Thursday on their premises at Waterford airport.  Adboard interviewed here on Thursday 14th and Tipperary Coop interviewed on Friday 15th.

Halt in interview process during exams and for Christmas:  There will be no interviews scheduled by the work placement team during the examination and Christmas period apart from VHI - see note below.  We will recommence on January 2nd.  The work placement team wish all the students the best of luck with your examinations.

Feedback from employers:

We continue to get great compliments on how you present yourselves and perform at interviews.  Here is a comment from Avery Dennison:    "We were very impressed with all five students and would have gladly offered all five a place with us, should we have had the room for them"

Opportunities Update this week

  • URGENT - VHI in Kilkenny:  See e-mail from Annette of Dec 15.  VHI needs to hire some more students to help with the increased workload over the next few months.  As time is getting very short to secure a placement, you might wish to consider a placement with them.  Let Annette know as soon as possible if you wish your name to be considered.    The Work Placement Office will be closed at 5.00 p.m. on Tuesday 19th December and, after that, it will be too late to apply.
Interviews for VHI will be held on Thursday 28th December at the offices of VHI in Kilkenny.   As WIT will be closed that week, VHI will contact you directly to arrange the interviews; also please ensure that you keep checking your e-mails over the holidays.
  • Allied Irish Banks has informed us of some work placements available in Dublin, Limerick, Co. Clare and Co. Meath.   Interviews, which will probably be in Dublin, will take place during week commencing 2nd January.   Please let us know if you  want your CV sent to them.
  • Dunhill Multi-Educational Centre in county Waterford is looking for a marketing student.  Interviews will not take place until January.  Let us know if you want your CV to be sent to them.  Note that there is little or no public transport to Dunhill.
  • Noel T Keohan:  This is a small accounting practice in Waterford.  An opportunity for a student to get good basic hands-on accounting experience.  Let us know if you want your CV to be sent to them.
  • Kerry Foods at Shillelagh in CO. Wicklow has an opening for a HRM student, an excellent opportunity for work placement in a prestigious Irish multinational.  Let us know if you want your CV to be sent to them.  They plan to interview candidates in early January.  See attached job description.
  • Wexford VEC at Ardcavan Business Park in Wexford:  Opening for 1 student (accounting, economics or HRM).  We have sent CVs to them and interviews will be in January.
  • Teagasc head office in Carlow:  They have informed us of possibly 2 work placement positions there and we have sent some CVs to them this week.  They may contact the students directly over the holiday period to arrange interviews.
  • Kel-tech Engineering on the Waterford Industrial Park has an opening for a marketing student.  We have sent some CVs to them and they will interview in January.
  • Boston Scientific in Clonmel has informed us of some work placement jobs for 2007 for finance students (this would cover accounting and economics and finance stream and perhaps management stream).  They would like to get the CVs directly.  You can send your CV to them using their website:  www.candidatemanager.net/guidant   and click into Interns 2007 link; you can attach your CV there. Let us know if you apply.  This notice is carried over from last week’s report.
