FINAL Progress Report 26 January 2007
Posted: Mon, January 29, 2007

This is our final report.  We have come a long way since we began as the work placement team on Monday 17 July.  We had no company contacts at that time and no company database.   We issued our first progress report on July 28 with our preliminary action plan.  We issued our first report to students on November 3 and we have issued an updated report each week since then except for one week over the Christmas break.

We are pleased to have achieved 97% placement in our first year of operation.  There were 5 students for whom we could not find suitable positions and, at the end, there were around 15 positions for which we could not fill, for various reasons.

Your WIT Mentor

The next task for us is to appoint a WIT mentor for each student.   We will let you know in due course the name of your mentor who will work with you on scheduling a work placement visit.  The student must coordinate the mentor visit with the work supervisor.  These visits are due to begin in late February.  The mentor will meet you and the supervisor to discuss the log book and your progress to date.  This is all part of your assessment for the semester.  To begin this process, Annette needs to have the first page of your log book.

Students Action:  If you have not already done so, please return your log book first page as soon as possible to Annette by e-mail (Atoms@wit.ie) or by mail or fax (051-302688) to allow us to begin to schedule the work placement visit to you.

Analysis of Work Placements

We have done some analysis on the work placement locations and the work placement industries:
