Department of Management & Organisation
Joan McDonald, Head of Department
Welcome to the Department of Management and OrganisationAs one of the institute’s largest departments, with 45 academics and 1,000 students enrolled on seven undergraduate honours degree programmes at any one time, the Department makes an important contribution to WIT’s teaching and research portfolio. We are leaders in the teaching of business and developing new, scientifically rigorous knowledge about business practice. All our programmes, from our broadly based BBS Degree to more specialist niche courses including the BA in Marketing, BSc in Retailing, BA in International Business and BA in HRM (offered on a part-time basis) are designed to enhance the overall intellectual development of our students with a view of integrating theories with business practices, recognising that Ireland is increasingly a part of a knowledge based global economy. The majority of our programmes offer students the opportunity to either study abroad for a semester or participate in relevant work experience either in Ireland or abroad. Therefore, it is not surprising that many employers prefer our graduates and many of our alumni occupy key managerial positions in the South-East, Ireland and beyond. The Department makes a significant contribution to Irish economic growth through the provision of high calibre, career orientated graduates, as well as through research and consultancy projects. Underpinning our academic programmes is a vibrant research community, including the Centre for Entrepreneurship and the Waterford Crystal Centre for Marketing Studies.
