Centre for Entrepreneurship WIT - Enterprise Programmes
Female Entrepreneurship Ireland Wales (FEIW)
You took the plunge and started your own business. It took a lot of hard work and commitment but you made it happen. So what do you do now? You would like to grow your business further, but what should you do first? How can you manage the day-to-day demands of your business and move it on to the next stage? Where can you go for advice and practical help?
The FEIW project might be just what you are looking for. It is an enterprise development programme for women who already have an existing business and who are interested in growing that business further.
A pioneering initiative, the FEIW course is tailor made for women in business. The programme was designed by Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) in partnership with The University of Wales, Aberystwyth during a very successful pilot programme in 2006/2007. It considers the issues that women face when running and growing their businesses such as access to advice and funding, accessing new markets, dealing with staff issues, developing contacts and managing work / life balance.
This innovative programme every Monday for six months (in the evening time, from 7 until 10pm). Each session will give you the opportunity to review best practice in a given area and engage in practical sessions to apply what you have learned to your business.
The topics will be as follows:
1. Creativity and Innovation
2. Looking After Self
3. Developing your business
4. Managing people
5. Raising Finance and Making a profit
6. IT skills
7. Selling your service or product
8. Legal and tax issues
9. Achieving your potential
10. Networking
The main output will be a business development plan for each person on the course. Mentors will be available to you to discuss your ideas and to provide guidance to you in developing the business development plan. Towards the end of the programme, an action plan will be developed to help you implement your development ideas.
The next programme will commence at the end of January 2008. Applications are currently being accepted but places are limited. The cost of the programme is generously subsidised by FAS, therefore the cost to participants is just EUR495.
Any woman with a business that has been running for at least one year can apply for this programme. However, you must demonstrate a clear intention to grow your business in the next twelve months. For further information please contact Louise Dalton, Programme Administrator
