About us

The Optics research group was set up in 1994 by the late Dr. Dónal Flavin. Initially, the focus of the group was the development of interferometric techniques for the interrogation of fiber Bragg gratings and other fiber optic components. Dónal's achievements and legacy were outlined in his obituary (link below), which was published by the Institute of Physics in Ireland.

The group is currently involved in a broad range of optics and photonics based research activities, from novel amplifier systems to discrete device analysis. Information on the projects currently underway and publications can be found elsewhere on this site..
