Macular Pigment Research Group

This research group is based at the Waterford Institute of Technology on the Cork Road in Waterford, Ireland. Since its inception in 2002, we have been involved in cutting edge research into the condition known as Macular Degeneration, with special emphasis on the role of nutrition in its mechanism.

Our director is Mr Stephen Beatty, a consultant ophthalmologist, and and our deputy directory is Dr John Nolan, a Fulbright Scholar, who are considered opinion leaders in the world on the relationship between nutrition, macular pigment and vision.

We are actively conducting research, receiving funding from both the corporate, private and charitable sectors and have published numerous articles, books, posters and presentations.

If you have any questions about our research or our group, please feel free to contact us. Our contact details are shown on the 'Contact Us' page.
