Structural Health Monitoring

The group is collaborating with the Optics Research Group at WIT on a €275,000 project concerning the use of optical fibre Bragg grating sensors for structural health monitoring (SHM) of polymeric composites. Within this project, the MCP Group is responsible for embedding the sensors in composite panels and for the characterisation of the strain-temperature response of these gratings by correlating the output strain measurement with that obtained from strain gauges and extensometry.
