Dr. Eleanor Owens obtained a B. Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry from Aberdeen Univeristy, Scotland in 1987.  She then moved to City University, London to study for a Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. R. Stephen Davidson.  Her Ph.D. studies were on the Photocrosslinking of PVA  modified with a Stilbazolium salt. Following her Ph.D. she worked as a Senior Research Officer with the Paint Research Association, Teddington, UK, investigating the exterior durability of UV curable surface coatings. This was followed by a spell in industry working for De La Rue Holograohics Ltd, as Product Manager for their Tamper Evidence products.

Since joining WIT in September 2002, she continued her research in the area of Photosensitive Polymers and Molecularly Imprinted Polymers. Her research interests have developed into the characterization and development of Solid Biofuels (both forest based and novel products).  In collaboration with her WIT colleague the Wood Energy Research Group has been set up within WIT.

Eleanor is the head of the Irish delegation and a member of WG5 for CEN 335 which is developing a range of standards for Solid Biofuels.
