Philomena Carton has also joined the team as Senior Administrator in the Technology Transfer Unit. Welcoming the investment and new appointments, Kathryn Kiely, Industry Services Manager said: "This is a very significant enhancement to WIT’s research support infrastructure. Management of intellectual property and commercialisation of research is a complex and time consuming process.
"Access to professional expertise and training in addition to enhanced collaboration with enterprise will make a huge difference in ensuring our research has maximum impact," she said.
Note for Editors:
As part of the National Development Plan (NDP) the Government has committed to strengthening the commercialisation functions within the Higher Education Institutes. The ultimate goal of this investment is to upgrade the country’s performance in the management and commercialization of ideas from publicly funded and collaborative research.
To this end Enterprise Ireland has been charged with managing a €30m investment over the period of the NDP to strengthen technology transfer capacity and help Irish companies benefit from publicly funded research.
Emanating from the increase in research investment and commercialization activity at WIT, the Institute was successful in its bid to Enterprise Ireland and signed a contract valued at €670,000.
This funding will strengthen technology transfer resources and expertise available to WIT researchers and industry collaborators.
