WIT widens access for mature students
Posted: Fri, February 26, 2010

Waterford Institute of Technology is widening access to a range of full- and part-time learning opportunities geared towards those aged 23 and over.

The Institute offers a range of routes to mature students interested in returning to formal education, whether on day or evening courses. It also allows students receive credit for prior learning or work experience when applying.

As well as those pursuing third level qualifications for the first time, the Institute has a range of opportunities at postgraduate level that will interest those who already hold a degree but now wish to complete a Masters or doctorate.

Announcing details of an information evening for mature students in the Institute on Wednesday, March 10, Dr Derek O’Byrne, Registrar, Waterford Institute of Technology, said: “The Institute has a strong commitment to providing broad access to all of our programmes for those with different life and work experiences. There has never been more flexibility in how students come on our programmes and in how those programmes are delivered.

“There is a growing recognition of the value to individuals of further study and a realisation that securing internationally-recognised qualifications will stand people in good stead when economic recovery gets underway. Our course content is also framed to ensure graduates are equipped with the skill sets demanded by employers so that completion of these programmes will improve employability.

“The information sessions on March 10 will allow prospective students get advice on the courses that best suit them, the application process and criteria for entry to those courses and how they can fund their study at the Institute.”

• The open evening for mature students on March 10 at the Waterford Institute of Technology main campus will include information sessions at 6.15pm and 7pm. Further information is available at www.wit.ie. For enquiries, please email schoolsliaison@wit.ie or call 051-302000.
