Since Minister Cullen announced the launch of the Árd Dioplóma í Léiriú Teilifíse back in 2006 this Nemeton/WIT Television Production course has gone from strength to strength.  Participating students are immersed in each step of the television production process; creating and developing an idea, pitching their proposal to the Irish broadcasters and afterwards shooting and edit in to a standard that meets the requirements of RTE and TG4.  In this way students are introduced to a broad range of skills, with particular emphasis given to the areas of directing and editing. Miriam MulrennanTraining and Development Manager in Nemeton says, “having the course at Nemeton means the students are immersed in a real working production company environment. This gives the students a feel for the business and allows them the opportunity to make contacts within the industry that may help them in the future”.

The course has been in the media spotlight a lot recently with it’s graduates winning at the Waterford Film Festival and being nominated for the Smedia Awards. It is due to this success that Nemeton and WIT have developed a part-time version of the Diploma to be taught in English. This Higher Diploma in Television Production – Stage One focuses on the pre-production stage of programme making. It will engage students in the key skills required for the crucial development, planning and pre-production phase of television production.  Areas covered will include - generating ideas, writing programme proposals, pitching to the broadcaster, cultural and theoretical elements of media and practice based television equipment skills. It is a level 8 minor award worth 20 credits. Having completed Stage 1 students may have the opportunity to complete further stages (production and post-production) at a later date. The course will run from January until May in the Nemeton Television studios.
