Title: Careers in Physics event for SchoolsDate: Wed, 3 Dec 2008
Location: Main Auditorium, Cork Road campus, WIT
Time: 09.30 - 12.30
WIT is hosting a morning of physics talks on Wednesday Dec 3rd from 9:30-12:30 aimed at Senior Cycle secondary school students. The theme for this event is how a physics degree can lead to working in a range of exciting areas, including the largest experiment in the world, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The LHC was switched on for the first time on September 10th 2008 and was officially inaugurated on 21 October 2008.
Talks will include:
- Dr. Cormac O'Raifeartaigh (WIT) on 'The Big Bang, The LHC and The Higgs Boson'.
- A talk by Mr. Peter Elger, who has extensive experience in both physics (LEP collider at Rutherford Labs using similar technology to the LHC) and computing (with TSSG at WIT and most recently Catch.fm in Waterford).
- A number of speakers from a range of industry sectors will then talk about their own career and opportunities for physics graduates in their company/organisation. This event is suitable for 5th and 6th year secondary students.
Bookings may be made through Eleanor Reade, tel: 051-302037, email: ereade@wit.ie.
