Mature Students

An applicant of mature years is one who has reached the age of 23 by or on the first of January in the calender year s/he seeks admission. The Institute will consider sympathetically applications from persons of mature years for places on any of its courses for school leavers.

Applications made on the grounds of mature years are considered to be non-standard. Mature applicants need not have the normal minimum entry requirements, but the Institute will admit only those who have a reasonable prospect of completing their chosen courses of study. Evidence of some formal attempt at preparation for third level may help an applicant.

WIT will issue a supplementary form to all mature applicants in March, and again in May for late CAO applicants only.  Completion of these forms will assist WIT in making a decision on mature applications.

Garda Vetting Enquiry Forms etc. will be required as determined by WIT/Healthcare Agency. The HEI's use the Garda Central Vetting Unit (GCVU) vetting service to assess the suitability of an applicant. Offers regarding the following courses are conditional  and could subsequently be withdrawn if an applicant does not meet the Garda requirements:

If English is not your first language, you should present evidence of competence.  A minimum score of 550 TOEFL (196 computer based, with a test of written English at 475+ or 5.5 IELTS (minimum of 5.0 in each band) is required for all undergraduate programmes.
